1.  Get a library card

  • To get a library card, you just need to fill out an application.  On the application you must provide a local mailing address.  Library cards are free.  If you lose your card there is a $2.00 replacement fee.  Customers under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign their application.  All customers must bring their library cards with then if they intend to check out items.
  • When you get your card (or any at another time), you can also ask for a TEXSHARE card. The TexShare card program is a reciprocal borrowing program. It is designed to allow the registered users of participating institutions to directly borrow materials from the libraries of other participating institutions.

To take Advantage of the TexShare Card Program, follow these simple steps:

  • Register for and receive a TexShare card from your home library.
  • Consult the TexShare web site to see the list of libraries which participate and the specific lending policies of the library you wish to visit.
  • Present your TexShare card at the reciprocating library's circulation desk to activate your checkout privileges. You will be required to show a photo ID.
  • Check out the books or other materials at the circulation desk. It is your responsibility to take care of your borrowed materials and return them on time.

5. Request that the library borrow a title for me from another library (Interlibrary Loan-ILL)

If TPML doesn’t own an item you would like, you can come into the library and fill out an ILL request form.  You can also email the information about the item to  tplib5@gvtc.com.  Please provide as much information as you have.  We will process your request immediately but cannot guarantee when the item might arrive.  You will be called when the item is ready to be picked up.  Items loaned to us from another library can be checked out for two weeks.  Usually the items cannot be renewed.  There is no charge for this service.

6.  Recommend an item for purchase

Ask at the circulation desk for a “Patron Request Form”.  The Library welcomes patron interest in the collection and will seriously consider all requests.  Suggestions will be reviewed by a librarian against several factors, including appropriateness of the material for TPML’s collection and available funding.  The Library is under no obligation to fill any particular request.  Please check back with the library in a few weeks to learn the status of your request.

7.  Reserve a meeting room

TPML welcomes the use of its meeting room for civic, educational, and public information meetings of interest to the citizens of Canyon Lake.  The meeting room may not be used by private individuals or by groups, which are largely commercial in nature.  No fees may be charged to persons attending activities in the meeting room, but non-profit organizations may collect regular memberships and dues.

A signed application and $30 deposit check must be submitted in order to be placed on the schedule.  The deposit check will not be cashed as long as there has been no damage to the room and furnishings.

Meetings must end one half hour before the Library closing

9.  Volunteer at the library

Library volunteers are key to the success of the Library.  In 2005 volunteers contributed 4,337 hours of their time.  Phyllis Nelson is the wonderful Friend in charge of recruiting, training and coordinating the volunteers who staff the circulation desk.  Other volunteers mend and cover books and send out overdue notices.  Volunteers assist in many of the programs at the library.  Additional volunteers are always needed. Applications are available at the library.
